Built in 1781 to resist some potential attacks from the Americans against the sawmill and the lighthouse on Île-aux-Noix, the Blockhaus served for the first time only in 1812. It was then the target of two major attacks and twice, the British garrison in charged of its protection repelled the enemy. The building has changed owners quite a few times and nowadays, the city of Saint-Paul-de-l'Île-aux-Noix takes care of the management and the activities on the site. It is the only building of its type in Quebec that has kept its original structure. You can in fact see some holes that the musket bullets have left at the time.
